Abstract

A nulli gravida aged 27, of typical Stein-Leventhal syndrome is presented, the syndrome was confirmed by gross and microscopic pictures after operation under the impression of Stein Leventhal ovaries by the clinical features of oligo-amenorrhea, obesity, hirsutism and sterility, endocrinologic assay and gynecography.
Although the exact pathogenesis of polycystic ovarian disease is still not completely documented, abnormal ovarian steroidogenesis by the failure of hypothalamic-pituitary system became important after the recognition of abnormal oxidative process in ovarian steroidogenesis. The cardinal features are anovulatory symptoms hirsutism, thickening of the tunica albuginea, hyperthecosis and bilateral ovarian enlargement with policystic ovarian change, Even if it is believed that the differentiation of Stein-Leventhal syndrome from. the excessive androgenic type of adrenal hyperpiasia can be done by corticoid, progesterone and HCG loading tests, it still remains as a problem. The therapeutic response to the classic Stein-Leventhal syndrome is great, and HP-Gonadotrophin and clomiphene became much favorable as a medical therapy.
